Sambal Garing Meroyan was officially created on March 1, 2021, when its founder, Puan Shasha, began making it as a casual venture for friends and acquaintances in the Ampang area. Initially, sales were limited to dry food stalls in malls and nearby Petronas service stations, serving merely as a source of supplementary income.

Starting with the production of just one wok-load per week, demand steadily rose until the sambal had to be cooked in two woks daily. Eventually, regular customers began inquiring about opportunities to sell the product themselves and earn extra income. Motivated to commercialize this heirloom recipe—originally from a grandmother who used to supply the crispy sambal for boarding school stays—Puan Shasha believed in the product’s potential. Its qualities—crispiness, mild spiciness, ability to whet the appetite, and long shelf life at room temperature—made it an ideal solution for quick meal preparation for families, picnics, and even overseas travel.
